Sustainable Livelihoods - Empowering Families to Rise and Thrive

Poverty is not just the absence of income — it’s the absence of opportunity. At Shinners Care Center, we focus on breaking that cycle by equipping women, youth, and families with practical skills, tools, and resources that enable them to build dignified, sustainable sources of income.

Our approach is deeply community-based, harnessing local talent, traditional knowledge, and relevant training to promote self-reliance. Whether it's a mother learning to sew, a youth gaining farming skills, or an artisan finding a market — we walk with them as they take ownership of their future.

What We Do

Skills Training & Vocational Empowerment - We offer tailored programs in sewing, beadwork, crafts, soap making, and basic carpentry — practical skills that can be turned into income-generating ventures.

Youth & Women in Agriculture - We train and support young people and women in sustainable farming techniques that respond to climate challenges — such as kitchen gardening, regenerative farming, and agroforestry — promoting both food security and climate resilience.

Business Mentorship & Micro-Enterprise Support - From business basics to marketing, we equip entrepreneurs with the knowledge, mentorship, and sometimes even seed capital to kickstart and scale their businesses.

Sales & Showcasing - Items made through our programs — such as crafts, textiles, and organic farm produce — are sold to generate income for the makers and support the larger Shinners mission.

Why It Matters

Sustainable livelihoods reduce dependency and restore dignity. They enable families to put food on the table, send their children to school, and contribute meaningfully to their communities. They also build local resilience against economic shocks, climate disruptions, and social breakdown.

By empowering people to provide for themselves and others, we’re not just ending poverty — we’re multiplying hope.
