Shinners Care Center began in Kisumu, Kenya in 1997 as a small self-help group with a heart for children, women, and vulnerable families. In 2004, we formally registered as a community initiative, and in 2014 we became a recognized Community Based Organization (CBO) as our work and impact grew.
As the need for support expanded, friends of Shinners in the United States helped establish a 501(c)(3) charity to partner with us. This registration allows well-wishers abroad to support our work more easily and transparently.
Where Stories of Hope BeginEvery life we touch carries a story — of resilience, of struggle, and of quiet transformation. In every smile, every classroom, every shared meal, and every healed wound, there is proof that compassion has power. Here are glimpses of the lives and moments your support helps shape.
Testimonial "Before Shinners came into my life, school was just a dream. I was helping my grandmother sell vegetables, often going to bed hungry. But through the scholarship program, I got back in class. Today, I’m in high school, dreaming of becoming a teacher — so I can help children like me believe that poverty doesn’t have to be permanent."
